Default Best way to clean arrows

Is there a good way to remove all the old glue on carbon shafts,so one can put new vanes on? I feel like scrapeing with a knife is cutting into the shaft some. Thanks

That is the best way to do it, you just got to be real careful not to dig into the carbon.

Once you get all you can off with a dull knife, use some acetone to finish the job...

I don't know why guys have trouble stripping old fletching off, but they do. I always use a sharp single edge razor blade (for utility knives). Held at the right angle (very flat) I slice off the old vane or feather. After they are all off I go back over the shaft scraping very quickly but lightly till I've removed as much of the old glue as possible. Most times I can get right down to the shaft. Then clean them with 91% alcohol and refletch. Yeh, every once in a while I get a small sliver, but I ruin shafts by hitting nocks and such, too, so one more doesn't matter much. I figure it's part of the cost of learning how to do things right. And to make things easier I never use any super-glue. It is the worst to remove. Good ole Fletchtite Platinum works very well, thankyou very much.

A potato peeler works terriffic for removing the base of feathers and vanes as well as any glue left on the shaft. The design of the peeler also keeps from digging into the carbon.

I do the same proccess and I wipe them down with denatured alchohol. I haven't ruined a single shaft yet.
I know there is something new on the market now that you just put on the shaft and it dissolves the glue. I dont remember where I seen it (maybe Cabelas) but I'd like to hear some feedback on the product.

The absolute BEST way is not to use any of the above methods yourself, but to have one of the featured girls from the "Racks" calendar come over and do it for you. That's what I do.

The best thing I've found is Bohnings' Goat Tuff Debonder. If the vanes are still on, you can apply some along the base of the vain and allow it to work its magic a few minutes and then generally pull them off. If you've already stripped the vanes, you just put some on a rag and wipe the shaft. It works much faster than any other product I've tried. It has the consistency of water though and is a bit pricey, so you have to be careful not to dump half the bottle on one vain when you first start to use it.

Don't worry about what little of the surface material you're removing from the shaft when scraping off the old glue. It's extremely minor compared to the amount of material removed from the front end of the arrow by the abrasion it gets from the targets.
