cross eye dominate

I have been out shooting bows with my 6 yo son. He seems ambidexterous when it comes to shooting the bow. He is left handed but throws a bball right. From what I can tell he is left eye dominate. Tonight he kept drawing the bow right handed. That would put him cross eye dominate. For now we are just out having fun and shooting but if this continues I worry it may cause problems in the future.Does anyone out there shoot right but lefteye or vsvers.?Can it be done?

hey im similar to this im left handed but I grew up shooting a bow right handed im left eye dominate but i trained myself to use my right eye while shooting my bow, everything else Ido left handed, shoot guns, Ext.. I learned the more I shot the better I got and soon didnt even think about it, although I have got in the deer stand and having a deer comming to me only to find out ive put my release on the wrong hand thats the only thing ive ran in to,, good luck and have fun

All of the recomendations I have heard over the years agree that it much easier to learn to shoot anything (gun or bow) with the dominant eye and learn to use the "off" hand.

From what I have read, if you are left eye dominant you should be shooting lefty. Well, I do everything righty, including shooting, and I have a dominant left eye. All I do is close my left eye when shooting and it works for me. I have been training to shoot with both eyes open and am doing okay, but I don't know if I'd trust myself come crunch time. Since he is just starting out, see how he feels with a left handed bow. You may be doing him a favor.

i shoot right handed but i am left i dominate but since i have never shot anything lefty i dont know which way i would shoot better,,i do shoot my bow with both eyes open,but shot muzzleloader and shotgun left eye closed

That young and is good with both hands? I would try to teach him to shoot whatever hand is his dominant eye. BUT, you said from what you can tell you think he is left eye dominant. Here is how to tell for sure. Take your thumb and index finger of your right hand and touch tips, like making an OK sign and hold it about 8 inches in front of your face, take your thumb from the other hand and hold it up in the air........like a big old thumbs up out as far as you can reach. Now with both eyes open center your thumb in the OK sign.........just like centering a pin in a peep. Now close your left eye.......is your thumb still centered? Left eye dominant if no, right eye dominant if yes. Repeat but close your right eye this time just to be sure. Try it out on yourself to get a feel for it, then have your son do it. That way you know FOR SURE what his dominant eye is.

You will hear a lot of folks say that they shoot cross eye with no problems, but I've coached many that couldn't stay consistent to save their lives. Got them to shoot dominant eye weak hand and it was like a new person.
