Yardage selection

if I shoot a 55# pound bow out of a tree stand what yardages should I have my pins set if i have a 4 pin sight maximm yardage shot is 35 yds?

Im pretty sure that, especially if you are using a lightweight carbon, that your best bet would be to simplify it and set one pin at 20, and another at 30. Then either limit you shots to 30 yards, or just know you will need to hold a few inches high past 30 yards.

Dang I'm showing my age , you dont need a ten yard pen nowdays with the preformance we get..LO!!!! H80 is right simplifiy it as much as possible, nowdays the archery gear we have will shoot really flat from 0-20 yards just practice alot to no how much your hold over or under will be on using couple pins...

I do 20, 30, 40 and 50. Use the 20 and 30 to hunt with and the 40 and 50 to practice with.

right now i have it set to 5 for under the stand, 15, 25, and 35 but i didnt think that i should have that way and wanted to see yalls suggestions

I have my common 3 pin Tru-Glo sights set at 20,30,40 yards. I don't go beyond 40 yards, because I'm still a little unsteady at that range. I don't need a 10 yard pin, because:
#1) A deer ain't gonna get within 30 feet/10 yds of me!

#2) I can easily use the 20 yard pin and aim lower (I've practiced so I know where 10yds is with the 20yd pin).

I have only bow hunted for 3 years, so I am no expert. I started with 3 pins at 10-20-30and it was a lot because they were so close together. Then I went to 2 pins for a couple of years set at 15-30 which was good and now i set up with a single vertical pin set at 20 and I love it. Although I have only practiced with it you are only talking a few inches here and there at the farthest exptremes, so that is easy to compensate.Now there is no question on what pin to use-No,I will not be shooting 40yd shots, but where I hunt there is no need to either.Hopefully I have pics to show in the fall! I think it is all your own personal preference and what makesyou the most comfortable.

I have my sights slide marked at 20, 30 and 40 yards. At 10 yards I just have to aim just slightly low to be dead-on, but not enough to miss a deer's vitals at that range. I have a ton of additional adjustment past 40 yards, but that's the longest distance I've been able to shoot at thus far, but my sight would probably let me zero out to 80 yards if I wanted to.

I'll probably keep the sights set at 20 for hunting, and adjust them as needed if a longer shot presents itself. I would not, however, shoot past 30 yards in a hunting situation.

Kind of depends on what weight arrow yor shooting. At 55 your not getting much speed although there is a guy on here who pushed 300 on a 60# bow. he's some kind of wizard though. I would say keep your longest shot low off a pin. If you can set one pin dead on at 25 and hit 2-3 below that at 30, leave it there. Shooting low at a longer yardage is a good way to hit game that jump your string and at your speed 30 maybe the right time to shoot low.
