Default My bow it finally set up!

I took my Black Knight Dually to Scheel's today (my local Bowtech dealer) to have it checked over and set up. I had them re-serve the string because the old serving was worn and separating in spots.

In addition to the Sims/PSE NV dampeners that came with the bow, I had them install the following equipment:

Venom large aperature peep with tubing.
New D-loop with brass nock
Trophy Taker Shakey Hunter drop away rest
Wrist sling
Sims Limbsaver S-Coil Stabilizer
HHA Optimizer 5500 single pin sight

Later I plan to install cable and string silencers and Limbsavers on the limbs to further quiet the bow, but I was actually surprised how quiet it already is. One thing it definately is is FAST! The arrows I have weigh 400 grains, and at exactly 70lbs peak draw weight they are screaming. I suspect that the arrows are a bit underspined, and I plan on using heavier ICS carbons for hunting. The bow has 80lb limbs on it, which makes those arrows IBO weight, but I can't draw the bow more than once or twice at 80lbs! I don't think I'd crank it up to 80lbs even if I could comfortably draw the darn thing!

Tomorrow I'm going to take it to a longer indoor range (Scheel's shooting lane is only 8 yards) and get it paper tuned and really shoot it for the first time. Now that I have it put together I'm more excited than ever!

I would also like to say that I am grateful for the help I've received here for the many threads I've poured over and the questions I've asked.

Thanks,

Mike

Only thing I would lose is the rubber tube peep. They are loud and someday will fail you when you least expect it, other than that its one hell of a bow!!

I thought about that very issue alot before choosing that peep, but in the end decided it was the lesser of two evils. The peep the bow came with was the type that sits horizontally in the string when the bow is at rest and then tilts when the bow is drawn so that one can look through it. The two things I really disliked about that style peep was the fact that the aperature was very small, which even in good light made the pin hard to see. And since the peep is canted the image was both fuzzy and oblong rather than being round. With the Venom peep the aperature is angled so the image is a true round ring and the peep is large enough to give a clear image of the pin. I plan to carry an extra piece of tubing and replace the tubing at the beginning of the hunting season and also at the first sign of wear.

My next move might be to a No-Peep, but I'm not sure how much I like that option either. Those who use the No-Peep swear by it, but I've not yet convinced myself that it's for me. Perhaps as I practice and get more proficient I may change my mind.

I had the peep site with the rubber tubing. It worked very good, but I threw it away as soon as I realized it could snap and blind you. I switched to a regular peep site and liked it much better. All you have to do is drill the hole out a little bigger, and you will let more light in. As for the peep not turning so you can see through it, turn the string loop until it is pointing the same way as the peep. When you draw the peep will turn.

Oh yea, that is a great looking bow.

I had the very same question. It turns out that in 2003, Bowtech offered the Black Knight in several configurations. One could get it with either a camo riser or the all black, which is no-doubt a tribute to its namesake. One could also choose the short 5 3/4" brace height, or the longer 6 3/4" brace height. Mine is the all black with the longer brace height. When I had the bow disassembled and checked over, the all black factory finish was confirmed by the fact that the finish evenly covers every surface, including the limb pockets, and the few wear marks show no evidence of a camo dip finish under a layer of paint.
