I switched from my Blackhawk carbons to my 2514's because I couldn't get consistant groups with my 100 grain muzzy's. The carbons are to small to get any kind of helical fletching on them. I think this was the problem. They did shoot well without any wind but they planed to much in the wind.
Anyways, I opened open the prongs on the golden key rest to fit the 2514's. I tried the muzzys again they seemed to be all over the place. I decided to papertune the bow to see where I was at. I started with a high right tear, the easton tuning guide said this was rare with a release shooter. I managed to get a pretty good bullet hole with field tips by adjusting the rest and lowering the nock point a little. When I tried the muzzys again I got a high tear with the same setup. I have read before that a high tear is sometimes desirable. Is this true? Should the muzzys and field points both tear the same? Should the bullet hole be there from say 5 yards out to 30 yards. It seemed to change when I backed up from 5 to about 8 yards. I had to give up my efforts until tomorrow due to work so I couldn't shoot outside at my target. (Papertuning was done in the basement, too windy outside.)
I think I solved my problems. The helical fletched aluminums definately fly better and group better so I will stick with them. I got a perfect bullet hole with a bare shaft so I started looking closer for fletching contact. I found that the vane pointing down was hitting the allen screw head on the left side. I moved the screw to the bottom side and moved the nocks a little to gain more clearance. The arrows fly perfect now and hit the same spot with field points or muzzy's. Oh yeah, I was also torqueing the bow with my grip so I tried holding my hand open and it went away. Even with the heavier aluminums I sighted in at 25 yards and it's only about 3 inches high at 10 and about dead on at 15, 20 and 25. I have never been able to shoot this well. I WAS convinced that I had no fletching contact, boy was I wrong. Next year I am going to try a drop away rest.........
