Default ONE CAM---ADJUSTING TILLER IS WRONG!

That's what i'm being told over at the MATHEWS forum. The statement was made that you don't adjust tiller on a one cam bow---he said if you adjust tiller on a one cam bow you are doing it wrong.I've adjusted my one cam and do believe i changed it for the better--why the blanket statement? It's official,I'M CONFUSED!

Quite simple... Some people don't know what they're talking about and it seems most of them are Mathews shooters.[8D]

Several years back, I was in the process of buying a single cam bow. The tech wanted to help me get tuned up. Well, I had the time and the tune job was free so... Well, to make a long story short, we finally got that bullet hole he wanted, but the nock point was nearly a full inch BELOW SQUARE! He said he often got single cam bows to "tune" like that. I took the bow home, adjusted the tiller and tuned the thing correctly.

Yeah, a single cam bow can shoot when it's out of tiller, but that doesn't mean tiller is meaningless on the blasted things.

Thanks Arthur---The thing that had me wondering was that the guy who made this blanket statement is one of the top dogs at MATHEWS---BOWTECH is looking better all the time!

I'm pretty well convinced that if you have to adjust tiller too much to get a bow to shoot then there is a good possibility that the thing has mismatched limbs on it. It is possible to adjust it so the bow aims a bit better but only a quarter turn or so--nothing drastic.

That being said, I like what Arthur said. It just amazes me that guys will go out and spend $600, $700, or even $800 for a bow and know nothing about them whatsoever. Some don't even know how to slide a peep sight up or down a string to align it for their eye, yet they got $1000 rig hanging in their hand.

Many people don't realize that tiller is measured differently on a single cam. This is due to the cam being a different diameter than the idler. I suspect most that measure it incorrectly just figure the change they made didn't help. So you don't need to worry about it. Never realizing they set it wrong, all along.

pdq is right about 1 cam bows having tiller measured differently but he didn't elaborate.

1 cam bows have the tiller set by taking a string and running it from axle to axle and then setting tiller to the string that is run between the axles.

Alot of this comes straight from Mathews saying their bows don't need tiller adjustment but they do say to tighten the limbs down and then back them off evenly. This basically sets tiller if the limbs are matched.

There is no magic bow out there that needs no tuning. There are basic things to tuning and tiller adjustment is one of them.I will admit that in my experience that tiller adjustments didn't make a big difference in the way my 1 cam bows have shot in the past.
