Default NAP SpitfireXP pro series

Ok so I am going after the black bear in Manitoba. I am getting 62 lbs of kinetic energy. Does anyone think I am going to have a penetration problem? I have a 400 gr. arrow. The broadhead is 100 gr. Just would like to see if anyone has a bias against Spitfire expandable and comments on fixed vs. expandle broadheads on Black bears.

Most black bears weigh no more than a big whitetail buck and if hunting over bait your shot would likely be within 25 yds. If you are comfortable with that setup I wouldn't hesitate to use it. Now every now and then a 450 pounder sneeks in and then you...................

You should be ok. I use both fixed (Thunderhead 100) and mechanical (Spitfire Pro Series 100) I never had a problem with either. Both penetrated the same for me. Most were passthroughs. I lean more to the mechanicals because for me, they tend to leave better blood trails.

Use the mechanicals, you will love them! I think the whole NAP Spitfire line are solid performers.

Grommet
I was a big fan of expandables because I couldn't get any broadhead to fly with field points. After reading all the negatives (yes there are pros) on expand. I descided to try slick trick 100s. These fly just like field points. The reason I mention these is penetration. When I shoot into the block my expandables will not go all the way thru. The slick tricks go almost to the fletching. I am shooting 60#. Good luck.
