please help me with quotes

could someone please help me with how to " quote" someone. I see in lots of posts where you take someones words and put them into your own message to retort and there message appears in a box. How the hell do you do this. I usually just cut and paste, but it doesn' t stand out as much.

I just hit copy with my right mouse button clicked& uer txt highlighted... think thats how it works ,lol

OK, it' s official, I' m stupid. I' ve always done the reply first then gone back and copied text so it doen' t work that way.
