What are these rankings(fawn, shooter buck, non typical etc etc) and how do they work? thanks

They are simply rankings that couple the amount of posts you have. They grow as you grow as a member. A fawn until 100 posts, a forkhorn until 500, then 1000, 2500 and at 3000 you'll have life membership.
