Need help with Avatar

Hey all I am havin trouble postin my own avatar. I want to use a picture of myself with a deer and cant figure out how to resize it correctly. I went to photobucket and resized it down to avatar, but it still said that the file was too large. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
