When you were in your profile page did you click on upload picture / will replace exsiting one or did you click on use avatar for your profile ?
Your avatar and your profile pictures are two diffrent things , your picture in your avatar will show up under your username.
Your profile picture will be displayed only in your profile page , so you gotta make sure your working on the right one.
