Posting pictures?

I have figured out how to upload pics from my digital camera, but uploading them to my profile or on the test post site doesn't work. Says file is too large. How can I compress the file, save it elsewhere and get it uploaded? Or, is there another way to do it. I have tried my scan files, but they won't work either. Want to walk me through it?

Put your pointer on it and you should see the size.
Right click on it and you should be able to resize it.
