Default Cracks in bears nose

I went to clean the dust off my 3/4 black bear mount, and noticed that the nose had small cracks on it. Also its away from direct heat and direct sunlight.

1) For one how does this happen?

2) how can it be fixed?

It could be caused by a number of things, but less than perfect mounting techniques are often the cause. Depening on the damage, there's different ways it could be fixed. Any good taxidermist should be able to take care of it for you.

Bill I got it, thank you very much. The cracks are very small, so I used some epoxy very very thin coat, then painted it black, looks great!!!!
