Default Mount or not mount

I went on a couple hunts this yr an shot 2 nice whitetail bucks. hey are nice but I know that I will probably kill bigger. One is the mid 130's the other mid 140's. Both deer dresses weighed over 200 lbs. My taxidermist wats 475 dollars. He does a good job but I am going on 2 more hunts tis yr and should get at least one big bck. My question is how much would it run to have the hides tanned just in case in the future I want to mount them?

Ask the taxidermist you plan on taking it to what it would cost to have him do the work and have them tanned. Going to depend on his tannery costs and shop rate. I personally will do it for clients for $x amount and then if they decide to mount it the money paid comes off on the mount. If they decide not to mount it down the road I always give them the option of giving them their money back for the tanned cape if its nice enough I'd use it for remounts. Your other option is to have the taxi cape it and give it back to you to freeze and keep in your freezer. I do the same thing with those too as far as options and payments.

Ditto.

I would just cape and freeze. If done properly it will last for years.

A good tan would most likely run about $100 where im from, its different in each part of the country. I can also get real nice shoulder mount done for 350 out the door. I would say get them mounted, but I love mounts. You prob. spent some coin on the hunts so why not have a nice mount to cherish the memories? Good luck whatever you decide.

I didn't know You could Tan a Deer hide and use it later on to finish Shoulder Mounting a Buck?Maybe Do a European Skull Mount on both Bucks if You think You'll shoot a bigger one later on?
