I am assuming you are talking the skull plate. Yes it needs to be cleaned and if it is still bloody I use a mixture of Borax and Baking Soda and cover the entire skull plate. Let it dry out really good which usually only takes a week or so and mount up.

No you do not need to clean the antlers. If they have velvet that that is a totally different story. If they are hard horned than no need to clean. Most people like the bark stuck in the antler bases cause is shows character.

You should clean the skull cap so it has no meat or anything left on it. I also wash any blood off the antlers so they look like they were when the deer was alive. This is not necessary, but you don't want a deer mount with blood all over the antlers.I clean them in soapy water with a sponge, but you can clean them however you want to.

Thair was still sum stuf around the antler bass that dryed up. I tryed to grind it of with a dremo with no luck. SoI am soking it in water to soften it up than I thinkI can pull it of.

I usually scrape off everything that I can get, then I put Borax on it and run it across my motorizedwire wheel to finish, then I hang it up to dry out.
