I'm trying to find where I can get alum to tan my son's deer hide???

I've tried WAL-MART, Farm King, etc...

or any suggestions for a replacement product...

It can be ordered at most any taxidermy suppliers. It may be tough to find it in a local retail store.

If you have a store that specialises in Asian import foods, you can usually buy by the pound. Pretty cheap.

Or you can just by a tanning solution from McKenzie, though I don't know how it compares in cost.
