Default A couple questions about some mounts

I have an older set of antlers and it has the skull plate that is still in good condition, the only problem with this one is that the antlers are sun bleached. is there a way to get some color back into them so they dont look quite so old. My next question is do you leave the hide that is on the skull plate or try and peel it off and if so is there a good way to do this thank you to everyone who responds to this.

Generally speaking, without seeing it, you can re-color the horn with various shade of brown oil paints with linseed oil and turpentine mixed in. You can order kits to re-color but I personally don't like the potassium ones cause they have a purple tint. Yes, I remove the hide when removing the skull plate. I fit has been on there forever you may be able to rehydrate it by soaking it in water, just don't let the horns in as they may discolor. Hope it helps
