Default 3D Speed limits?

I chronographed my setup at 342 and have been shooting 3D competitions, that weren't very serious about regulations and classes, but now that I am getting better, I want to compete in some of the more serious asa shoots. In another thread, someone suggested speed limits in 3D competitions which would undoubtedly affect me, if they exist. Please let me know if they exist and what they are if they do. Thanks.

I believe you have to shoot 280 fpsin a ASA tournament.

You're allowed 288fps. You can't shoot your sight in hunter class either.

Dont set your bow up to shoot 288 with your crono, it could be wrong and they dont care what your crono says it is the one that they have on the course on that particular day and it could be wrong and showing fast, the last thing you need is to complete a course do really well only to be DQ because your bow shot 289 through their crono.

I have seen it happen many times and no amount of argueing is going to stop them from DQ'ing people.

Be safe and set your bow up to shoot around 282/3

At 340+ fps, yardage judging isn't nearly as important. I'd be willing to predict that when you drop to 280fps and lose 60fps your scores will change a little.

I agree with Matt. Slowing your bow down that much will affect your score. Speed limit for asa 280fps plus 3% which takes you to 288. Like Kanga said, don't set it up at 288. Set it up lower so you don't have any problems. With that bow you are probably going to have to shoot a heavy arrow to get your speed down, even if you turn it down. The asa web site has all the info on there and if you are unclear about something, give them a call. They will be more than happy to help with any questions you might have.

On another thread, someone suggested that I try open c class. Basically, I am kinda disappointed that I can't keep my speed in asa. Right now, I would rather not tune it down, but with more practice and experience I might be up for the challenge. What I am wondering is if I can use my setup (no changes at all) and shoot open c and how do I start?

Yes you can shoot open c with that set up. No worries. I explained on the other forum on how to get started.

As far as the speed thing goes you will have to turn the bow down for the ASA. But the bottom line is, and Matt correct me if I am wrong, but the speed doesn't make you a better shooter. It will only help if you miss judge yardage. Who really cares if your arrow gets to the target faster than someone elses as long as it hits where you are aiming. Competitive shooting, as far as the ASA goes anyways isn't about speed. They give you an unknown round for a purpose. It can really seperate alot of shooters. Take this last weekend for example. My first round (unknown) was almost 30 points lower than my second round (known). And thats all because I just did't get my yardage estimation right. I am alot better shooter than my score showed but had I been shooting 300fps or over, being off by 5 yards like I typically was would not have made that much of a difference.

Just a question but how long have you been shooting?
