Default How to set up your bow ass-backwards

Here's how to do it wrong.....which is what I did Thurs. and Fri.

I know I have a fps rule I have to get to.....so I shot arrow through the bow and adjusted DW until I got to the desired fps.....and checked the DW. 60#'s.

Problem is.....I don't think I'm holding enough weight at 60#'s. It doesn't feel right. I'm fighting a solid release....and jumping. I let some horrible shots go, today.....leaving them all high.

I don't know much about archery.....but I was thinking on the way home....the way to probably do this the right way....would be to set the bow up to shoot at the DW that feels best....and build your arrow around that.

I hope that makes sense.....and is there a preferred method?

I agree 100% about setting up the bow to be where it needs, and then adjusting the arrow to where you need it. Call me when you have a chance, and we can talk in some more depth. I think we can get this thing sorted for you pretty quickly.

Adjust the holding weight and be done with it

You are absolutely correct. That is why I preach the programs for serious target archery. You can set your bow up the way you like it so it feels right and holds well, then shoot through a chrono and let the program tell you what weight arrow to shoot at your selected fps.

Yep thats the way I do it.

I use Archers Advantage to design arrows the program gets me that close to the desired arrow weight and fps, nowIdont even shoot through a crono. It also lets me know the FOC of the arrows.

I have found that the weightthe program tells me is only a few grains off same with the fps it comes up with and the bonus is it is an easy program to use, sure does save me a lot of time testing different arrows for my desired set up.

Like you I am also held to a speed limit and get my arrows to show 277fpswith the program.

Great post , i have the opposite though . I want to up the speed of my new bow , but without upping the draw weight . 63# is just right , but i'm only getting 271fps ... i want more for doing 3D , without adjusting the draw weight .
