Default Why not as many GWP?

i was just wondering why i dont here much about german wirehaires? I was wondering why you dont here as much about them as you would a GSP,Brittany's or Labs. I had one and liked the heck out of that dog and am in the process of getting another one.

They are just not that popular or a house pet. Every one has a lab thats why it is hard to find a good hunting lab these days, alot of them have been bread into pets (dont get me wrong alot of labs can still hunt great). GWPs are great all around dogs, I have had the priviledge to hunt with some realy great ones. On the other hand I hunted with two out in north dakota that could not find a bird in a soccer field.

I dont understand why you dont hear more either. What ever you do dont tell my daughter they aren't house pets. I have Drahthaar's. they are hunting machines. My oldest male, 12, has killed four coyotes and plays with my kids. He is an outstanding phesant dog. Had another that is dead now that was a pointing machine. The one below is just eight weeks old and is a grandson of my old dog. If they aren't very popular alot of poeple are mising out.

I would have to agree with versdog. Drahts are amazing hunting machines. There is a price for fame in the hunting dog world which usually leads to diluted gentics in the hunting arena. Luckily the german system helps to control who and what gets bred. I went with a Draht because whichever pup I purchased I knew I would have a top notch hunting partner if I took care of the training end of the deal. My 2 year old draht Merlin hunts until I am tired and sleeps next to my chair when he is in. I would post a pic if I knew how.
