Default What a differance a winter makes

I wish I know what I did right this winter but for the first time this year I took Mongo down to the pond since I had the day off and our pond is finaly getting up to level, and it was a vast improvement from last year.

But anyways I took him down to the pond and he was so excited when I went to the barn with his foam goose. That first toss into the pond his hit the water just great. Last year he was good at this to but it was when he would leave the pond is where the problems would start. He would just dart out of the pond and want to play keep away.

Well this year he did the same thing at first but he only went a few feet away from me and stoped compared to last year he would go about 10 feet out or more. But the big change from last year is when I said relase he dropped it and I said leave and he did and I just walked over and picked it up. Last year he would drop some times but he would not leave it. He wanted to pick it up last year and keep it away from me.

At first he wanted to hit that pond just as that goose hit the water. After a few tosses I was getting him to sit and stay a lot better, and I would them tell him to go where last year again this was a large battel we had.

The only differance this year was in the last month I trained Mongo to our Invisable fencing. So once he got that down I have been playing ball with him a few times a week.

I just have to get him into a basic class at my local dog training place right up the road. I think that come comand will be a lot better and I think he will stay better on comand. The other think I need to get is the book "10 min retreiver".

I would love to know what I did this winter to get him so much more clam and responsive then last year. I just feel so much better. I was so worried about him lossing skills but some how he gained even more. I guess it just needed time to sink all in.

There is also one thing that helped me out a lot. That was watching "Water Dog". That show has a lot of great tips.

If anyone has some good tips on getting that come comand down a lot better I would like to hear it. He is going to get into basic class in the 10th of next month. I think his first owners did a good job with him getting trained but his 2nd and 3rd owner screwed him up a little. O and he all 3 of this owners in his first 8 months.
