Default How to train a bird dog?

well i got a new dog wippit/benji cross not the best dog for birds but i was wondering if there are any tips for traning it plz and ty

Are you serious? A whippet / mutt cross? Pure bred whippet are (were) sight hunting hounds you may have tried taking to fields and let it chase rabbits. As far as a bird dog ... unless you were some kind of amazing dog trainer, which I'll assume you aren't based on your post I'd let that dream go.

Work on obedience skills, and bring your dog along while you kick brush. Your dog may kick a bird up for you, and the companionship of your dog and the exercise it will get may make it worth it.

Can't imagine that you could get a sight hound to become a bird hunter but all dogs are different-I wouldn't even know where to begin training one like that for such a use-let us know how it goes

the best way i found to train them is to take a bundle of fethers and drag them on the ground then hide them in the bushes.

Leave the dog at home with ma and go get yourself a shorthair then go hunting

since most dogs have a good nose on em i wouldnt say it cant be done but it might take some time try some of the training vidios or books

I agree with the opther post keep him at home and by Hunting whether it is a retriever,or a pointer. I beleive that breed you have there will cause you alot of frustration since they are not bred for bird hunting.
