Default Puppy Biteing

Ok well my puppy is now about 7 weeks old and all she does is nip at people. She will pounce on your feet like a lil tiger or something and start gnawing, if your laying down and not paying attention she will crawl up and get you right on the ear! I have tried giving her toys to teeth on but she wont play with any toys at all, they hold her attention for all of 5 sec and then she sees someone move and she goes for their feet agin. Now this post is mostley for my mom bc I have been trying to knip this in the but before an older person comes over that her lil bitty teeth can do some damage to, I have been putting my thumb in her mouth and telling her firmly NO with my face right up in hers and when she stops squirmin I let her up, but then she just looks so sad, and she goes over to mommy to play. Now it is not to early to be trying to break my dog of this is it?

PS: Sorry if it was hard to follow my post.... just woke up =/

Sounds like a typical 7 week old to me. The way you are "correcting this" is correct -- but just as soon as you have done so, substitute something she really likes to chew on, even if only holds her attention for a few seconds. Most pups LOVE to attack and chew on a teddy bear type toy -- just don't let her tear it apart and eat it.

In the same boat you are Jluke 04 with an 8 week old who loves to chew. He's gotten noticably better in the past week, although I've said the word "No" more than any other time in my life. None of my kids' Christmas toys have been safe. The only advice I can recite that Doc hasn't mentioned is to curb that behavior early because it's far easier to handle at a young age. Consistency in your reprimands would be another thing to look out for. At least that's what I've read, and it makes perfect sense too.

Normal at that age, Basically your pup is teething,
Diferent types of natural chews is what worked for me. the manmade kind didnt work.

My 6 week old Lab does the same thing. I read that it is normal. In fact, if they don't bite when pups, you should worry. They are learning how hard of a bite they can get away with without injuring you.

When he bites I would say "ahhhh" (or some other sound) loudly, turn away, withdraw your hand and ignore him for 10 seconds. He'll quickly learn that is not acceptable.
