I currently own a three year old GSP and I am wanting to buckle down and start correcting his behavior issues that he has right now so that I might be able to start getting him into the hunting realm. My question is on those electronic collar devices that you can use to train your dogs to correct their bad habits. I am not really educated on them and I know that there are numerous ones out there and am just looking for some advice from you all with experience on what to look for or which one to choose and do they really break those habits and I am not having a barking problem, more of the running off, jumping, etc. Thanks for any guidance you all can provide
I have a dogtra 1100 that I use on my 1 1/2 year old lab. I did a wonder on her nipping problem, and I can stop if she is taking off after a hen that she got up. They can be a great tool if used correctly, but be sure to follow the guidelines for them. Good luck with your shopping!
I have heard and have actually visited the Tri-Tronics site and I am learning a lot already. Now is the "beeper" style of collar just for tracking your dog in the field or can that also be used as a training collar? I am just curious as to if what I am looking for is something those beepr collars offers or if I need to stick with the field and sport series that don't have the beeper for training my dog. thanks,
The beeper is for keeping track of and finding your dog in cover. They ussually beep every 10 seconds or so when the dog is running and every second when a dog is on point or standing still. They are not for Training and are only a tool to find your dog in the field they kind of replace the bell. That being said I wouldn't want to hunt a pointing dog without one.
I use inotek's Track and Train collar and like it very much. I am sure there is don't wrong with Tri-tronics, dogtra or sporting dog brands. They may even be better than inotek.
Remember to only use your e-collar as a re-enforcement tool for comands you know the dog already knows and to use it sparingly.
Good luck and Hope you are successful with your correction of your dog. It is always harder to brake bad habits then it is to not let them start
