Default Need info on electric dog fences

Does anyone use one of these, and if so does it work good? Also do you leave the collar on your dog 24/7? The one I am looking at has the wire that you bury and put a remote collar on the dog. Thanks

I have 1 , I installed it 4-5 years ago. I have several collars for my lab . 1 for the fence with a small bell to tell my lab thats the stay in the yard collar. Also a standard collar and a hunting E -collar.
When he has the fence collar on it would take 2 or 3 guys to drag him over the fence line.
The wire is easy to install with a power edger, I put on 3 blades together.
The 1 I have is the cheapest one Cabelas had at the time ,about $100.
My lab is collar wise ,he dose not test if it is still on .
If he is wearing the standard collar he knows that he can cross the line.

Thanks johnch, how hard was it to train him, and how old was he when he was trained for the fence? Also when you use the fence do you keep the collar on 24 hours a day? The reason I ask is, the manufactuer says not to due to irritation but I will have to leave the collar on the dogs if that is the containment route I go.

He was about a year old when I trained he with the fence.
It was easy , he was already trained with a E-collar and is almost a self training dog ( too smart for his own good some times) ,just a few trips up to the flag line and he figured out that the collar with the bell would shoch him if he tryed to leave the yard.
No I don't leave it on him all the time . If I am in the yard working or in and out of the house he wears a regular collar and he spends most nights in side.
Also if I am going away hunting or working for more than a day or so I have a 100' cable run that he is atached to with a 20 ' chain .
