Hello all I am looking for a type of dog that I can keep in the house but yet still take hunting and train to hunt Squirrels and rabbits, preferably one not to high strung as I am disabled and would have a hard time keeping up. Any suggestions? Thanks so much Jimmy

IMHO,you are talking two different style of dogs. Treeing and,or,ground scenting. It may be able to get one dog to do both, but I have yet to see one! For squirrels, there are a few medium size breds,as are rabbit dogs, all make good house dogs.
A little Treeing Feist squirrel dog will tree squirrels as well as flush/roust rabbits and pheasants and such. But it won't trail a rabbit and circle it back around like a beagle will.
You are talking about two different types of dogs. Some will tell about a friend of a friend of an uncle who had a beagle that they taught to tree squirrels. But I never saw one. The treeing instinct is just that. It's not a trained task.
Here's my little Feist treeing a squirrel:

I keep mine in the house and he is a very good dog. He's also a fine watchdog. I believe there is a fella in Wisconsin who breeds Feist dogs.
Try going to www.sqdog.com and follow the links page to breeders.
