Default How To...

Anyone have some good information or know of a good book/website on how to use a electronic collar effectively?

I have a chocolate lab puppy and had the oppurtunity to pick up a decent e-collar at more than half off and before I start using it I want to know how to use it properly.

Thanks,
Brian.

I use my E collar as a Hearing aid , My lab knows his comands and the he listens better if he thinks I may shock him if he ignores comands and training . Most good lab puppys are too smart for there own good but are bull headed . I trained with love , a firm hand , a long check cord and dog treats .I only used the collar to renind him not punish him . Dogs are ruined with excessive use of the collar. Most lab puppys will try to please you so go slow and don't expect too much too soon !

YUP!
One of the basic tenents of e-collar use is NOT to use it for a mistake but, for lack of effort. Knowing the difference is one of the keys.
For websites: Mike Lardy.
For printed material:"Tri-tronics" Retriever Training by Dobbs/Woodyard good though, they over do it a bit.

I completely agree with "losthwy". Mike Lardy's e-collar video is truly beneficial. Visit his website at totalretriever.com Lardy has put out a series of outstanding videos.
