Default I need some help

My yellow lab/walker mix has a tendancy to growl at me. he's 5 and i've had him since he's been 5 months old. but he's collar smart so i can't use a shock or bark collar on him. if you have any tips please reply.
he isn't a hunting dog.

Don't allow him to growl at you! When he does grab him by the muzzle and growl at him and don't let go till he shows submissiveness. He thinks he is the alpha dog and you must show him that you are. Also as you grab his muzzle tell him "no".

Default RE: I need some help

I think the reason why, is because when I was little he would growl and I was afraid of him in case he would bite me. I've tried that and have picked him up by his neck skin, and even went as far as grabbing his throat and closing his windpipe then saying no growling but after I losen my grip to let him take a breath after he starts to exhale a growl comes with it and it starts over again. I can't put him up for adoption because he has separation anzitey with me. does that register in your brain? thanks for your help, I apreciate it very much.
