Default Setter Points in Water

My English Setter, Kate, is 3. She's never had a problem with water and swimming, probably because my other 2 dogs are labs and she grew up swimming with them. Last week she was swimming after a stick in Lake Huron when a gull flew low over the water right in front of her. The lilttle dope went on point! Her head actually went underwater before she started swimming again. I love the fact that she's staunch on point but this is ridiculous!

Default RE: Setter Points in Water

Joe ... My yellar Lab Cappy will "point" upland game, but not waterfowl. Strangely enough, last season he was frequently running into Rails and an occasional Timberdoodle during the 3rd and 4th weeks of our waterfowl season here, and he'd lock up on them just as he does a quail or chukar. It really is strange to see a dawg pointing while in the water.

Here he is on a staunch point. When I moved in to see what he was pointing, sure enough Iflushed three rails about 10 feet in front of him.
