Default cutting off a dogs tail?

what is the purpose in this?why not just leave the tail natural? still looking for a good gsp. sj

I've seen tails get pretty bloody when the dogs work alot of heavy cover and briers. Its take forever for the wounds to heal and it will get infected easy.
