Default What to use for treat's

I tried to get my lab to eat cheerios but didn't. What can I get that I know he will eat? Bacon bits maybe? I don't know.

Mention carrots or noodles in my house and my dogs go nuts. I give carrots for treats and start adding pasta -- Noodles, to their diet 2 months prior to the opening of dove season. I continue this until seasons close (Feb. 28th). I ran track and cross-country in high school and college and pasta was my diet, so if it was good for a distance athlete, it has to be good for ahtletic dogs.

I know a lot of folks like to give their dogs treats. I've just never understood why.

And a Lab that wouldn't eat Cheerios? I've never heard of a Lab that wouldn't eat anything and everything. Labs are the garbage disposals of the canine world.

I reviewed his folder last night and he's only 6 weeks old. Maybe he's to young to understand what a treat is. He us really slow at eating. This morning he ate in my presence for the first time.

bobo21 - I like to use cheap hot dogs. I take out one per day and cut it into chunks about 3/4" - 1" long. I use it as a means of enticing pups to come to me. I slip them the piece of hotdog when they do and love 'em up real good. Works like a charm.

I tried a little bit of hot dog last night and he wouldn't eat it. Tried Cherrios and he wouldn't eat that. The only thing he will eat is his dog food and when I'm not around. I think since he's in a new environment and all that he's hesitant on things right now.

MY LABS EAT ANY THING THEY CAN GET NEAR THEIR MOUTHS. MAYBE YOUR FEEDING IT TO MUCH. I DONT USE TREATS FOR TRAINING ONLY PRAISE WHEN THEIR YOUNG. BUT TRY TRAINING WHEN THEIR HUNGRY YOULL FIND THEY WILL BE MORE WILLING.

if he is only 6 weeks old , then theres your problem.
that young they really don't know what they are, just milk.

just give him a lot of play and love.later he will eat and take you treats.
get Purenia puppy chow and add milk, (warm).all of mine has always loved that.when he is hungry , then break some jerky treats into little pieaces about the size of a butterbean.give him one and play with him.
pretty soon he will eat in front of you and the treats can show him he did something right.

usually a pup needs to be about 12 or so weeks old before they want anything hard.JMHO

GOOD LUCK.
