Default Another dog?

I have a 6 mo. old male Lab. We have talked about getting a second dog, but were going to wait until near the end of next summer. A friend of mine knows some folks that have a 9mo old female Lab that, due to an impending move, they must find a new home for. Supposedly she is obeidience trained and though not started as a hunting dog, does come from a good hunting line. I am torn, I would love to give this pup a good home, but I don't know if it is too soon, with my dog still being a young pup. He is a good dog, but does have some dominace issues with other dogs. He is friendly with other dogs, but I just don't want to create a bad situation. I need input please!

Bill..... I had a similar situation. Had a YLM 2 yrs old.... I then bought another YLM......although he was a pup he and is/was very well socialized he is a dominant male. So I deal with the WWF of Dogs at night when Gunner gets out of his crate. It is all play but when you have 2 90+ lb dogs playing, it can get pretty crazy. I have been working on it for a while so it has been much better as of late. I spoke to a professional reagrding it and his recomendation was to nick em when they started.....I did and now a verbal no breaks them up.

Good Luck and Good Training

About 18 or 20 years ago I trained a cocker and a lab together. There were some dominance issues but as they matured I ended up with a pair of dogs that were a real pleasure to hunt over. Biggest problem I had with these two guys was that they both got old and had to be retired at the same time. I'd do it the same way all over again. The only question you have to ask yourself is can you devote the time it takes to train two dogs properly at the same time? GOOD LUCK IN WHATEVER YOU DO AND HAPPY HUNTING.

Thank you all for your input. It turns out this female pup found another home, I guess I was too slow making up my mind. Oh well, I believe these things happen the way they do for a reason. We will go back to planning on another pup in the summer.
