First off.....FORGET about the collar for the time being....you are a long way off from that transition. Training can start the day you recieve your puppy. Work on your basic obedience. Make it fun for your dawg and make em short. You can train 3 times per day.....but 5-10 minutes tops. Introduce the pup to birds...pigeons..clipped wings etc....let the pup explore and have some fun. Build a bond with your dog......buy 10 minute retriever by John and Amy Dahl or Tri-Tronics Retriever Training by Jim and Phyllis Dobbs....they will get you pointed in the right direction. Join a Retriever Club in your area.....you can find one at
www.NAHRA.org. Once you have the basics down and you even start to think about the e-collar....find a professional to get you started. It is not a shock collar! The collar is used to reinforce the dawgs actions as is a choke collar or pinch collar.
Research the bloodlines of your dog....as Goodsen said...STAY AWAY FROM SHOWDOGS.......check out
www.deeprunretrievers.com for a great bloodline.
Good Luck and Good Training
