Default GSP Tracking and finding wounded deer??

I have two GSP' s. I have trained both to hunt upland birds, they are absolutly awesome dogs. A friend of mine shot a deer last year and could not find it, I offered to go and get my dogs just to see what would happen, they found it. I would like to find out some training ideas to tweak the natural ability that God has blessed them with. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Jason in MD

use them each and every time someone you knows takes a deer , even if you see it fall.go get tthe dogs and let them find the deer.

you can take feet and tarsel glands and drag them around and put blood on them, let the dogs follow.this will help a lot.

it only takes a few times and they will be made.

There is a whole school of blood tracking for the German breeds--some are trained to lead you to the downed deer, some are trained to stay with the deer and bark/bay until your arrival. Try searching for the German Wirehaired Pointer forum--they have a training forum that might help.

Good luck.

And the beauty thing about them is that you can still use them on upland, waterfowl and small game as well. ENJOY your dogs.
