Default 1 Dog or 2? What do you think?

I have an indoor female beagle which has been fixed and I am thinking about buying a little brother for her and my family. I would get another beagle for sure. I think another dog will help her so she does not constantly beg me to play with her and he will also give her some company in the garage while we are at work. What do you guys think? Will it be hard to train the new puppy? Will it mess up my dog now, if the new puppy has a few accidents inside? Will my dog get jealous not having all the attention? Thanks in advance for any tips or advice.

it should not be hard to train the new pup.the other one is like a kid,it will probably be jealous for a while.it should not make it go back and mess up.it will take some time to train the new one,(that part of getting a new pup)lots of fun.
Let the older one be in on the training, take them outside together and start from there.
I have a small dog that stays in my fenced yard and sometimes in the house.I raise a lot of beagle pups, and he HATES them all to start with.then after a few days he will protect them with his life.it is a turn around fron daylite to dark.

good luck in getting you new one trained and have fun doing it.[:-]

If your female isn' t jealous, she has something wrong with her. My advice would be to train the female first during a session and then the pup to show that she isn' t being left out. The pup won' t know whats going on either way. She' ll get used to it, HOPEFULLY.

I have 2 rabbit hunting house beagles.. mother/daughter. (domesticated hunting dogs) When we bred the mother, we couldn' t decide on keeping a pup or not. Needless to say,, we have 2 beagles now.. we started taking the little one out rabbit hunting with when she was 5 months old. She played at first, running back and forth between her mother and I, with some training, and not much,, she is the BEST rabbit dog around!!! She followed her mother around more as she got older and caught on to rabbit hunting very quick.

I don' t believe having 2 dogs is any more work than 1, unless you count opening and closing the door for nature calls.

If you get a pup,, try to introduce them and see how the pup interacts with your beagle before you commit.

By all means, get another. The older dog will likely be somewhat distant at first, but in most cases will warm up to each other soon enough. Just remember to show her (the older one) preferential treatment in the beginning.

Besides when it comes to hunting, a little competition can be a good thing.

Pups are great but you might consider getting a slightly older dog. I have given a couple of older dogs homes and have had good succcess. no matter rather you get a puppy or an older dog there will be a transition period for you, your old dog, and your new dog. I say go for it . ( if you do consider an older dog check for a beagle rescue group in your area and consider giving a dog who needs a home, a home. I got my last 2 dogs from a rescue and couldn' t be happier wityh them
