Mosquitos in summer...

I have a bad mosquito problem in my area. I use both heartguard and frontline to keep my dog healthy but with the frontline the mosquitos will bite first then die. Short of spraying my dog with insect repellant every night, Im am out of ideas on how to keep them from bitting the crap out of my dog. Ive even tried burning citronella candles. I do bring her in most nights but dont want her used to being inside 100% of the time. Any ideas?

Citronella as it does work is a weak repellent. As long say your dog has been given the monthly heartworm pill - being bitten by skeeters will really do nothing.

Now to keep them off your dog in a kennel poses a tough problem. There are devices on the market that work well but are expensive.

They do make Carbon Dioxide skeeter traps and they do work

Fogging around the kennel might help too.

I have used Deet type repellents on my dogs but more so for the stable flies and I never spray the dog direct but treat my hands to wipe in on the dogs ears from there.

Goggle using several key words and you might find help but with animals and skeeters it is a tough problem

I have always used K9 Advantix which is designed to also repel
mosquitoes as well as biting flies, lice, ticks, and fleas. Mosquitoes are a hugh problem here in NH and my dog is never bothered by them.

i would never use HEARTGUARD SHOT.outside ok on dog inside not ok.i do like INTERCEPTOR for heartworms
i use advantix k9 on outside........

We use BioSpot and it works great. It is similar to Frontline but repels skeeters too.

BIO-SPOT is bad for dog.that is why its so cheap.advantix 9/frontline plus are best.
its like HARTZ,that one has killed dogs and is cheap at wal-mart.
me, i would not use it.

do a goggle on BIO-SPOT,not very good what you will read.

try AVON SKIN SO SOFT.i rub it on my hands and put it on toby,around his ears ,on his head and back. it works.
it is best for us too. i like it in white cream ...

It's made for poison oak originally but I found that "Sasquatch Itch Cream" kills the itch. I also like "avon skin so soft" to keep them away--it's like a tar pit for the skeeters. Lemon and eucalyptus oil works to if u can get them. It's funny but "bullfrog" sunscreen seems to keep the away. A buddy told me that neutrogena's product called "acne free" kills the itch also--it has sal acid in it. anybody heard if west nile is suppoded to be coming back?

Awsome stuff on here, I posted this then deployed to Iraq... now that Im back I have 2 dogs and still have the skeeters out there. I ended up telling my wife to keep the dog inside the rest of last summer and this summer we are doing the same. also we switched to interceptor from frontline and still on the heartgard.
