Default Bluetick deer dog?

I'm getting a bluetick puppy this afternoon, he'll be 5 weeks old Friday. I was thinking about making him a deer dog because I don't really do much other kind of hunting. Would he make a good deer dog and how do you train a dog to find deer?

Well I think I should have been a little clearer, I want him to be able to track a deer once I've shot it if I can't find it.
