Default What to do with lab

I go to college about an hour and half away from home. My lab is only over a year old. My parents keep her in the kennel where she has about 25'x25' space to run around. She is very energenic and likes to run around. My problem is that my dad works all day and my mom really can't control her. The dog listens to me and my dad only, so she is fine with me and my dad. I have been training her to bird hunt. She is very good for a young dog, listens and scouts flawlessly in the field, but won't listen to anyone besides me and my dad. She doesn't get enough exercise now, and got a little fat. My question is, should I dig an electric fence for her around my huge backyard for my mom to control her, or will this cause more harm?

I'm not sure an electric fence will be worth the time and money. My son has a Choc Lab and there is a fence around the perimiter. The Lab will knowingly go through the fence to get out of the yard. This prpoerty also happens to be about 8 acres with woods beyond. This dog knows he's going to get zapped but must feel it's worth it. Kinda funny in a way because on his way back, he stays just outside of the electric fence and waits. I have another friend and his Lab does the same thing.

Maybe additional training so this dog understands your Mom is also the boss will help. Good Luck.

You need to train your dog better. A truly "well trained" dog will listen to anyone. My dogs listen to my 4 year old daughter and anyone else who hunts/trains/works with them.

Invest in an electronic training collar. This will be the best investment a hunter can make for his dogs protection. You will ALL-WAYS have control of your dogs every move. Teach your mother to use it and she will feel more in control, which then will teach the dog to listen to others. Most collars come with a CD that teaches you as the trainer, how to use it.

Determine the problem you are attempting to solve, or what you are testing. Phrase this at the top of the write up. Use an "If this, then that, because of this" format for writing your hypothesis. Have "If this" be what you changed", "Then this" be your result of changing the hypothesis. "Because of this" is why the reaction occurs. This will allow anyone to repeat your experiment, and verify your claims. Once again, this allows someone to replicate your experiment.Organize data and categorize the data so it is easy to read and understand.State what you could do differently to improve the quality and preciseness of the experiment.
