Default New to training hunting dogs

Hey guys,
I just got a GSP, and im looking to make him an all around hunting dog. Everything from pointing and retrieving birds, to finding sheds and tracking deer. Anyone have any advice or training strategies for me? I have never tried training a dog before, since this is my first dog He is 9 weeks old, and so far only knows sit. I have gotten him to point at a pheasant wing tied to a fishing pole a few times, but thats all I have gotten to so far. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Congrats on the new pup. If I be you I would run to my nearest NAVHDA chapter and start working with them. They are a huge help and will get yoi on the right track. Good Luck.

NAVHDA also has a training book they use, read it. I've read the precursor to it, "How to train dogs to train themselves" I believe it was called (local library), but if its anything like the book above, its well worth the read.

As for tracking, there are others here who would know more as I don't use dogs track or hunt fur anymore.

Let him be a puppy! The only thing you should be working on is basic obedience, After 4 months, then move on to birds. even then, Don't forget he's still a pup. Enjoy this time with him. It doesnt last long.
