I agree and disagree with sfarrell.

I have a high spirited Lab that is now 18 months. She is working out great for hunting. However, she is a bit much in the house. I have found that working her in the evenings makes her more barable inside the house. This is the type of companion you want for excellent hunting.

In response to the sock thing, I do not recommend this unless you do not mind putting up with your laundry all over the house. I have found that a puppy training dummy works very well. You should also keep plenty of rawhide chews around. Discourage (easily, do not use too much force) chewing on anything but the rawhides. I taught my puppy " easy" with my hand and the other things like trainer dummies and let her have at it with the rawhides. Now she is softmouthed and takes her biting energy out on acceptable chewies. Good luck and be prepared for high energy.

I fully agree with Ohio on the teething issue, exercise issue and on the method of inserting the hand into the dogs mouth for making it a more softer mouth, but the part about biting hands, legs and jumping on the lap on its own free accord lends me to believe that it may be trying to show dominace in its new pack.

Sounds like the way a normal happy 7 week old lab behaves to me. Might not want to give the pup the training dummy to chew on. The pup needs to be excited about retrieving and may not want to retrieve something he has all the time. He may also decide that it belongs to him and may not want to give it up. I do agree that he needs chew toys and such. It will help save your furniture.
