In the field he never points them, he just walks around them and we always scare them up. Im almost fed up with this and am about to give away my precious dog. which i dont know if i could do. your best bet is to get with a professional trainer and let him get you started.then you will have the idea.

I suspect that your dog knows that you can' t correct him outside your yard. As for a pro trainer, first check to see if there is an NAVHDA chapter near you. It will be alot cheaper and you may make some new friends as well.(www.navhda.org)

How old is your dog? If it has less than two seasons of training/hunting, than don' t panic just yet. I' ve seeen some very good dogs have thier " light bulb" come on in going into thier third season. And, as suggested, if you' re not sure of training methods, than you need to get with some one who knows more " how to" in the proper training. Proper training will give proper field behavier!

It' s probably a control factor. You have no control outside the yard. You could try a shock collar, or a long lead rope (50 ft or so) and make him stop when you want. I like the collar idea.

As far as elctronic collars go, I think more people need trained on how to effectively use them before they ever do use them. I' d be willing to bet, that alot of guys that use them, don' t actually shock themselves with them first, before strapping them on thier dogs. I' d highly suggest doing this, so that you have an idea just how much shock that they are delivering on any certain setting. And becareful using them around another dog that is also wearing one, if they happen to be on the same frequency, I' ve seen guys trying to shock thier dog, while they were actually shocking someone else' s dog! Just something to think about.
