whens too late?

my wife brought home a pound puppy black lab who i figure to be about 3-4 years old? he seems pretty smart and not skittish or gnshy. is it too late to try to get him fetchin birds?

Some of the best dogs I have hunted over were cross breeds. A Lab will have a great instinct to retrieve and hunt. A good buddy just got a yellow Lab from the Humane Soc. and the dog is doing great. He spent $300.00 dollars at a trainer and the dog is hunting like a pro and retrieving to hand (1 month of training). What have you got to loose?

Its so hard to say, every dog is different. Some dogs have drive, so dont. Normally a lab is supposed to start training at6 months old. Now, it also depends how much you want the dog to do. Force fetching can be very tough to do at that age. Good luck, I hope it all turns out for you!!
