Default Deer tracking training

I recently have aquired a Chocolate Lab that is about 13-14 weeks old. I am wanting to train it to track deer. Does anyone know where you may be able to buy deer training scent. I have found training scent at Cabelas and BPS but none is for deer.

Oh yea if anyone has any training tips that will be much appreciated!!1

You'll want to train him on real deer blood and start by buying Tracking Dogs for Finding Wounded Deer by John Jeanenney. Go to the UnitedBloodTrackers.org to find out more information.

I put my GSP puppy on them right away. If someone shot a deer on my property and it ran then I told them to come get me and my dog. I got him started around 5 months old, he was still pretty clumbsy in the woods. Now a year later, he can be laying around doing nothing for months, but as soon as i put im on the blood, off he goes. The best part is i trained him to go slow, that way he stays close. I think this is key.

Unfortunately we cant use dogs on deer in PA. I have a 50/50 Lab/Rhodesian mutt that excels at tracking. I have to train him to not track deer. It is in his instinct. Hunters will shoot a dog chasing a deer here. I use my dog to hunt upland bird/duck but he could do so much more if allowed by law. I think a Lab/Rhodie would make an excellent deer dog. Since there are no Lab/Rhodie breeders I would think a 100% Rhodesian Ridgeback would excell at deer tracking. They have a fantastic nose and they never tire or give up on a hunt.

Mine is 100% weather proof and he never tires or gives up if I let him keep tracking a scent.

You can use cow blood from the butcher shop. And you will need a some deer hides and wrap them around a 5 gallon bucket. If its a lab that your training get him crazy about retrieving a dummy or ball and when it tracks up the hide durring training throw the ball for his reward. I know another guy that lets the dog he is training have some raw hamburger meat when it tracks the hide up for the reward.
