Default paws

Yesterday my springer broke his nail off on his right front paw while hunting, the ground was frozen and pretty sure thats what caused the break. before I take him to the vet this afternoon (don't open until 12:00) is there anything I could do? it don't bother him, noticed the blood on the floor and then found the problem

Default RE: paws

I use Steri-Strips for this type of injury. You are probably familar with these. They are the adhesive strips that MD's use for severe cuts rather than stitches.
I keep them in my truck and stick them in a pocket when I take my GSP hunting.
I would, at a minimum, wrap the foot in a clean rag to help protect against infection until you get to the Vet.
