I had one thatwas justa pet for 15 years. Now I have a 2 yr old male thats a flat out awesome hunter!!! Only trouble I have is that both didnt think they were a dog. They thought they were a small brown furry person.

I have a 9 year old female that is the smartest dog I have had--have kept Britts and Labs previously.I do have the same problem that 'deke12ga' has with his, but she more than makes up for it in the field, and blind. She does put on a show for my wife after a day hunting, you'd think she just hates to go hunting........my wife tells me every year that she is done, no more trips to Kansas, or Iowa.If yours has the"high energy" problem, don't worry it gets better around year 6 or 7!

If I ever get another dog it will be a Boykin or Boytel. I lost my best buddy (Jake) and turkey hunting partner about 5 years ago to epilepsy at 4 yrs old. He was a mixed bird dog that caught onto flushing bird his first fall. I get the feeling from time to time to get anotherdog but his memory still stops me from doing so.
