Default Pigeons

Have a pup I want to get started on live birds this spring.

Am looking for a source for pigeons.

In the past I bought from a guy who trapped them, but can' t find him or anyone else in my area.

Basically I want to know best methods/locations for trapping my own or what works for others. I envision something like an after dark operation under a bridge with my salmon net; or is there better ways? Maybe a Marlin Perkins style rocket launcher net...?

Thanks for any ideas!

if you know where there' s a lot of birds. make you a trap and feed them for a few days then trap them.

That is sound advice. It IS legal to trap them. Make sure to keep food AND water inside of the trap for them. You should check your trap daily. Also remember there will be a mortality rate. Our club has a coop with 50 to 200 pigeons used for training all of the time. We always find dead ones in the coop. Shelled corn is the best I have found for baiting. You can also search out roosting places and try shining a bright flashlight in their eyes after dark. I heard this holds them like frogs so you can grab or net them. Good Luck.

I' ve caught them every way you can imagine, but using a trap is by far the least time consuming. You can build one yourself for little to nothing, Check out this site . you can order one from them or at least see how to build one.
