I am new here and glad to get any info I can. I had one GSP for 7 years when a gay I work with asked if I would want another. It was either I take him or he would get shot. So I took him. He seemed like a great dog until I started my beard trimmer in the house one day. He started to urinate all over and hide in the bathroom. When I got near him he tried to attack me. When I ask about this from the gay he explained that he only had him four a few months and got rid of him for that reason. He gave me his papers and explained that the dog was professionally trained and used for filed trials. I have been working with him a lot and he has gotten better as long as I do not try to punish him. If I yell to loud he will turn. Any help would be great.

Jimmy- My inlaw's had an English Pointer who was ruined with a shock collar. It would freak out if the microwave was used, street light's came on. She would also urinate.
As far as the dog being scared, sound's like you're doing the right thing. Keep it in the house with you, the dog will warm up. sound's like he/she need's a little socializing. We got our's when she was 2, and she was scared of everything and everybody. She is now a great house dog and hunter.

Sounds like who ever trained the dog was VERY heavy handed in disciplining the dog to the point that you have a fear biter.May be why he got rid ofit.All dogs are different in what they can take as punishment,you must evaluate the dog and adjust to the dog.I like the phrase "firm but gentle".As for the e collar, it's a good tool only if you KNOW HOW AND WHEN TO USE IT,leting someone use a collar on a dog without knowing how and when to use it is like leting a monkey play with a straight razor.

That dog has been fried. Regardless of the cause of his behavior, it will to some extent be permanent and what you need to evaluate is if the dog really belongs in your kennel.
