Default DOG HEALTH QUESTION?

i was watching my dog and he lately is itching about 3 inchs from his right leg towards his side.
i took my hand and thought i would find a thorn or something.

what i found is soft lump that is below skin on his side.
it is about size of 1/2 inch shaped like football, bigger in middle.

i checked his other side, and no lump.

anyone ever run into this?

Yes, and now he is dead. Go get it checked by a vet. It could be nothing

How old is your dog?

Many dogs get fat deposits just under the skin, especially as they age. Normally they don't itch though. Could be an allergic reaction to something as well. I would get it checked out, if anything, just to figure out what it is.

The lab I had at one time got a cyst in her back. Took her to the vet and he cut it out but, it kept coming back. The dog digging and biting at it will eventualy cause it to break open if that is what it is. That is one thing I have noticed about some of the labs as well as other dogs, as they get older some are more prone to get cyst the some other breeds. When wehad our lab put down she had the same one that had been removed about 4 times.

my dog is 4 yrs old.
he was itching in that area last 2 weeks ,so i felt around, thought i founda thorn etc from hunting grouse.

then i felt this small like cyst as phil said, its not in skin seems to be in fatty tissue between his ribs/skin.

its soft like a pancake shape or football shape about 1/2 inch long.

i will be taking him to vet next week, its hard to find and you have to feel around the area to find it.

Could be a fatty tumor, which a lot of older dogs get. 4 is a bit young for this, but go get it checked anyway. These are not bad tumors. They are harmless.
Thats a common place for these tumors to develop.

Hey buddy, don't worry. I raised 3 dogs of different breeds and all of them got some growth like that at some point in their life and were check by the vet. Some of them had them removed some didn't. None of them had health problems because of it and all made it to past 13 years old. As of right now we as humans have sis all over in the inside of our body. We all have a lot of them. If you ever get a cat scan you will know this. Just take him to the vet, but don't worry, your dog will most likely be fine.

yes, vet said its fatty tumor,if it grows ,then i am to bring him back,if not, its fine..
so i guess its if its gets BIGGER ,then they do something..

this is worst grouse season here in pa. i have saw, i feel its hunting pressure, hawks, owls, fox, bobcats, coyotes, fischers.

those OWLS are cleaning every rabbit and grouse out of my yard..
i found sign of 6 rabbits and 2 grouse killed by 1 owl in my yard.

those redtail hawks are also killing birds/rabbits bigtime.....

there should be season on those 2 birds, for sure....
