Default Cooking for your dogs

Do any of you guys cook any of the game your dogs help you harvest especially for your dogs? I was sitting on the couch today and the idea crossed my mind. I dont have a dog yet because I'm still in college, but I hope to get one as soon as i have the property needed for one, but i was just wondering if any of you dog owners share your birds with your dogs and if your dogs had any favorite recipes. just an idea.

Nothing cooked. Raw gizzards and hearts -- livers from upland birds (the cats get the waterfowl livers).
Some raw venison trimmings. IMO, there is no need to cook wild game for the pooch.

OK, I'll bite. Why gizzards, hearts and livers (from upland birds only)?

Mustad,
Livers from waterfowl (especially Ducks) can be pretty polluted and nasty lookin'.

Thanks Doc... Actually, I'm more interested in your thoughts on why you feed the internals of the things you do. Is it just because Casey likes it or is there nutritional value there? I've always tossed mine, but if it's good for the dog, I know a couple of four legged friends in my house that will be very happy to benefit from this.

Thanks,

The internals are the most nutritious parts of an animal. That's why wild carnivores always
go for the guts first -- skeletal meat is less nutritious and is therefore eaten after all of the
good stuff is gone.

Our dogs always get at least one dove/quail or pheasant heart from the hunt. We gave my old gun dog the duck hearts. That was his treat for guarding the bird bucket while we cleaned them...
