Default I'd Like To Get Another Dog But..

I would really like to get a beagle for rabbit hunting but I can't stand dogs that bark constantly and I really don't want the dog to be inside the house. I have six kids some of whom are pretty young and I want myself to be the one to train the dog and not have 6 or 7 different people giving the dog orders. I don't know much about beagles so can anyone give me some info? Is it feasible to keep a beagle out in a dogrun without the dog barking constantly and are beagles dogs that constantly need companionship and go crazy if left to themselves for any length of time? Any input would be helpful.

Beagles are barkers by nature, thats what they are bred to do. I would look to another breed.

I've heard you can hunt them with a basset Hound. I have one, and he is not relaly all that vocal. He has his days, when he is unhappy with me or the wife for not taking him when we go somehwere, but generally, he ispretty laid back and quiet. Have to be careful to watch their weight though. I am lucky, mine only weighs about 55 lbs, not fat, and he doesn't drag any part of his belly when he walks.
Just a thought. I don't know much about beagles, other than what I have read.

Good luck to you.

I'll echo what losthwy says... They bark, it's what they do.

I've owned coon hounds and beagles... They both bark at anything, all the time, and at any hour of the day.

You can control the barking with a bark collar; but, you can't leave it on constantly or it will rub/burn spots on the neck.

These guys are right but... I've got several kennels full of beagles and they are happier w/ companionship. I've had barkers before andMr. Tritronics fixed that realquick. With that said, they will bark when an animals in the yard.
